Advertisement was one of the few games that only required one performer in each playing. The idea was simply that the contestant, such as Stephen Fry or John Sessions, would have to advertise a product (the suggestion typically being as vague as "breakfast cereal") on the spot, matching the style of music being played.

The first time it was played, back on the radio show, featured two players, instead of having music piped in. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry sold self-raising flour.
